Directions to the Museum

The museum is located behind the church and reached from the town centre by a steep (but short) uphill walk.

Streets of Bakewell

Walking

Head towards Rutland Square at the heart of Bakewelcentre. The Rutland Hotel is a key landmark to look out for.

Walk up North Church Street from Rutland Square. The street is on the right hand side of the Rutland Hotel as you face the building. Follow the road as it curves round to the right. At the top of the hill, take the second left onto Cunningham Place, opposite the Gospel Hall. You will find the museum at the top of the lane, on the right hand side.

The walk up to the museum is quite steep and the road is cobbled so please be careful.

By Car

Car Parking at the museum is limited, so we request that visitors leave these spaces for Blue Badge holders only.

There are 3 car parks within Bakewell which can be viewed here and other parking available around the town centre.

We recommend visitors book a minimum 2 hours car parking to allow ample time to explore the museum.

From your parking, walk towards Rutland square and up North Church Street following the walking directions above.

King Street

By Coach

Coaches can drive up King Street, which becomes South Church Street (B5055). You will need to turn around - there are two options for this. Either:

  • reverse into Yeld Road (above the church on the left)
  • continue up the B5055, turning left onto Shutts Lane. On the right is Lady Manner's School and it is possible to turn around there

After turning back towards Bakewell town centre, pull up at the top side of Church Lane on the left to offload passengers. From there, it is a short three minute walk to the museum along Church Lane.

Parking for coaches is available at the Agricultural Business Centre (ABC Centre). See blue marker on the map above or for more details please click here.

View of North Church Street

By Bus

The walk up to the museum is quite steep, but there is a local bus service that can take you most of the way there.

Bus No 178 leaves Bath Gardens (near the Rutland Hotel) stopping on South Church Street. The museum is then a short three minute walk along Church Lane.
