You can see the door leading to the cellar, and opposite this are the original wooden stairs installed by Arkwright.

The Tudors would have accessed the first floor room via ladders. You can see the Houseplace's fireplace. Arkwright blocked this access up to form a self-contained tenement. There were 6 such tenements. Have a look in the cellar before heading upstairs.
